Georgetown, once known as Silver Queen of the Rockies, is nestled among some of the West's most majestic peaks, Georgetown feels more isolated, and more at peace with the surrounding environment. If they made a movie about early mining towns, Georgetown could be the star.
In fact they have! Its downtown area has been the site for many movies with stars such as Ben Afleck, Danny Glover and Peter OToole. Singer, John Denver, made his TV movie, Gift of Christmas here. And if you looking for an old time railroad, you can truly step back in time with a trip on the historic Georgetown Loop Railway.
It has abundant Victorian style houses with iron hairpin fences and formal gardens, and if there were no cars it would look like another century. There are many homes and buildings rich in this architectural style. Georgetown offers a variety of unique shops, boutiques, restaurants, and overnight accommodations.
At 8,500 ft. elevation, Georgetown, Colorado is a picturesque charming town of about 1,000 people. Geortown is in Clear Creek County which is more than 70 percent public lands. In one day it is possible to climb to the summit of a 14,000 mountain, shoot the rapids on Clear Creek, or snowshoe across a pristine valley.
If your sense of adventure leans more towards relaxing and taking in the scenic beauty, there are ample opportunities for wildlife and flower viewing, fishing in our clear mountain lakes and streams, or stopping for a picnic along our scenic and historic byways. Vactioners, Hikers, Rafters, Skiers and Snowboarders all come across our town. Remember, you can't really Georgetown from the highway, take the Georgetown exit 228 from Interstate 70.
