Laughlin, was named in 1968 after its founder and the owner of the Riverside Resort, Don Laughlin. At first it was just a little village where there was just a gas station and bait shop with a couple of small casinos. The area was called South Pointe but Don Laughlin decided that the little village required a new name so why not Laughlin.

Laughlin has undergone phenomenal growth. In the late 1970s, a new surge in casino construction began dramatically increasing the population and transforming Laughlin from a small village into a bustling resort town.
